To many of us his voice brings back a lot of warm memories. We grew up listening to
"Taparashrjik" ("Wanderer") and "Im aghavnin" ("My dove"), to the simple and melodic tunes on
the cartoon of our childhood "Korcrats eraz" ("Lost dream") about little butterflies that
fly into a painting on the wall. To all of us growing up in 70's and 80's songs like
"Mer siro ashune" ("Autumn of our love") mean something dear and probably gone. As the generations
rekindle the bygone days with his old melodies, the new generations reveal to themselves the
beauty of Hakhverdian's songs. Accompanied just by guitar strings, Rouben Hakhverdian was
and still is the defining song-writer of our time in Armenia.
A man who has suffered persecution, whose songs were banned in the Soviet era and who had undergone
a complicated liver surgery still endows us with his sad and kind melodies.
This page is dedicated to him...
