Why Buy Black Tea?
Black tea is a style of tea derived from the camellia sinensis plant and is one of the most common types of tea in the world. Black tea is highly caffeinated (which makes it a great part of your morning ritual) and is delicious either on its own or with the milk and sweetener of your choice! The biggest difference between black tea and other tea types is how it is processed:
The first step to creating the most delicious black teas and black tea blends is to pluck the tea leaves from the tea plant. When the tea leaf is plucked it immediately beings to oxidize, which is how the color and flavor begin to develop. Next the soon-to-be black tea leaves are taken to a processing facility where they are subjected to intense heat, a process also known as withering. This process speeds up the oxidation of the tea leaves and affects its flavor, color, and (most importantly!) its caffeine content. Finally the leaves are dried to preserve their flavor and to make them shelf stable
Black teas are a great tea to help quit coffee, as they often take milk and sugar very well. Black teas are also the base for a traditional Southern Sweet Tea, a classic recipe that we made our own with our Carolina Honey, which takes our Nilgiri black tea from India and blends it with all-natural grade-A wildflower honey and a hint of lemon. Black teas also make a great Hot Toddy for cold nights, or a refreshing Arnold Palmer for those hot summer afternoons.
